Physiotherapists Registration Board

The Minster for Health appointed the Physiotherapists Registration Board on 20 May 2014.

The register opened on 30 September 2016. The legislation that underpins the work of CORU was amended by the Department of Health to allow for the registration of both physiotherapists and physical therapists. Both physiotherapists and physical therapists have been admitted to the one register – The Register of Physiotherapists.

The Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU has statutory responsibility for the:

  • Establishing and maintaining a Register of members of the profession
  • Assessing, approving and monitoring training courses for the health and social care professions under the Act
  • Establishing the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics and standards of performance to which Physiotherapists must adhere

The Board is the designated Competent Authority responsible for recognition of qualifications gained outside the State.
