Making an Enforcement Referral

If you want to make a complaint about an alleged offence under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 ("the Act"),  this must be done in writing.

Links to the referral forms for use in relation to suspected offences involving protected titles or spectacles can be found under the headings below. 

You can return the completed referral form to CORU via email at enforcement@coru.ie.

How do I make a referral relating to use of a protected title?

Currently you may refer a person who is not registered with CORU but who is using one of the professional titles listed below:

  • Social Worker
  • Radiographer
  • Optometrist / Optician
  • Dispensing Optician
  • Dietitian / Dietician
  • Speech and Language Therapist / Speech Therapist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Physiotherapist / Physical Therapist 
  • Medical Scientist
     

We will need evidence to show that the individual you wish to refer to the Enforcement Team for investigation is using the protected title. Any such evidence must post-date the date on which the title became protected.  The relevant dates are set out in the table below.

How do I make a referral relating to spectacles?

The provisions of the Act regulating activities in relation to spectacles came into effect on 31 October 2015.

If you want to tell CORU about

(i) a person or company who you believe is unlawfully issuing prescriptions for spectacles, dispensing prescriptions for spectacles or selling spectacles, or

(ii) a registrant who you believe is in breach of the [Optical Registration Board (Regulation and Control of Prescribing and Dispensing of Prescriptions and Sale of Spectacles) Bye-Law 2015],
