Notice of Candidates validly nominated

Notice of election of members for appointment to the Podiatrists Registration Board, the Social Workers Registration Board and the Medical Scientists Registration Board request for nomination was published in the Irish Times newspaper, circulated to registrants and stakeholders and on the website of www.coru.ie.  

The closing date for receipt of nominations was 12 noon on 13 May 2024.

The following candidates have been declared validly nominated and declared as a candidate for election in their respective registration boards and categories below.

Podiatrists Registration Board:

Category 2: One vacancy for a registrant who is engaged in the management of services provided by the profession.

No nominations were received.

Since no nominations were received in this category, in accordance with the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (as amended) and the bye-law governing the election procedures (S.I. No. 27 of 2024), one member is to be appointed by the Minister under Section 28(6) in respect of Category 2.

Category 3: One vacancy for a registrant who is engaged in the education and training of persons in the practice of the profession.

One nomination was received.

The following candidate has been declared validly nominated.

Since the number of candidates (one) equals the number of vacancies (one), the candidate is elected in electoral Category 3. The name of this candidate will be submitted to the Minister for appointment to the Podiatrists Registration Board. The term of office is due to commence in October 2024.

Social Workers Registration Board:

Category 1: Two vacancies for a registrant who is engaged in the practice of the profession.

Two nominations were received.

The two following candidates have been declared validly nominated.

Since the number of candidates (two) equals the number of vacancies (two), the candidates are elected in electoral Category 1. The name of these candidates will be submitted to the Minister for appointment to the Social Workers Registration Board. The term of office is due to commence in August 2024.

Category 2: One vacancy for a registrant who is engaged in the management of services provided by the profession.

Two nominations were received.

The following two candidates have been declared validly nominated.

Since the number of candidates (two) is greater than the number of vacancies (one), a poll shall be held in respect of the electoral category. Details on the ballot will be circulated to those eligible to vote in due course. The term of office is due to commence within August 2024.

Medical Scientists Registration Board:

Category 1: Two vacancies for a registrant who is engaged in the practice of the profession.

No nominations were received.

Since no nominations were received in this category, in accordance with the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (as amended) and the bye-law governing the election procedures (S.I. No. 27 of 2024), two members are to be appointed by the Minister under Section 28(6) in respect of Category 1. These roles will be filled via a Public Appointments Service campaign which will be advertised in due course.

Category 2: One vacancy for a registrant who is engaged in the management of services provided by the profession.

One nomination was received.

Since the number of candidates (one) equals the number of vacancies (one), the candidate is elected in electoral Category 2. The name of this candidate will be submitted to the Minister for appointment to the Medical Scientists Registration Board. The term of office is due to commence in November 2024.
