CORU approves Master of Arts in Social Work at Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest across both campuses

CORU has confirmed the approval of the Master of Arts in Social Work at Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest (TUS). The Social Workers Registration Board across both the Limerick and Athlone campuses.

The programme was originally approved by the Social Workers Registration Board on 25 June 2025 for delivery at the TUS Limerick campus, enabling graduates of the programme to apply direction for registration with CORU following graduation.

The Board has now approved a sister pathway for delivery at the TUS Athlone campus, with approval granted on 20 May 2026. This means the programme is now officially approved across both TUS campuses, and students graduating from either pathway are eligible to apply directly for registration with CORU.

CORU approval confirms that the programme and its graduates meet all criteria and standards of proficiency set by the Social Workers Registration Board.

The TUS programme joins eight other CORU-approved Masters in Social Work across the country, offered by:

Atlantic Technological University

University College Cork (UCC)

University College Dublin (UCD)

Trinity College Dublin (TCD)

University of Galway

The expansion of the approved programme to both TUS campuses marks a significant development for social work education in Ireland, helping to expand access to accredited training opportunities across both the Midwest and Midlands regions.
