CORU Engagement Sessions for Psychologists

CORU and the Psychologists Registration Board are continuing to make significant progress towards the introduction of a regulatory model for psychologists that will protect the title ‘psychologist’ in Ireland. The Board is undertaking its work in two phases:

·       Phase One will see the introduction of statutory regulation for clinical, counselling and educational psychologists and the opening of three registers; and

·       Stage Two will see the establishment of a fourth register that will facilitate the regulation of all remaining psychology specialisms.

Alongside this work, the Board is also in the process of preparing draft Standards of Proficiency that articulate the knowledge and skills required for entry into practice across all the remaining psychology specialisms.

As part of this work, CORU will host a series of engagement sessions during May 2026 to support understanding of regulatory standards and how they are used within the regulatory process. In advance of commencing a public stakeholder consultation process in the Autumn, it is hoped that these sessions will be of interest to practitioners of the various psychology specialisms that will be accommodated by the Psychologists Register, along with education providers and students.

Please Note: These sessions are designed specifically for practitioners, education providers and students of psychology specialisms that fall under the fourth register only. These sessions are not in connection with the opening of registers for clinical, counselling and educational psychologists.
