Colm O'Leary

After commencing his career as a teacher and later as a lecturer in teacher education, Colm O’Leary has been working in professional regulation for almost 20 years with four professional regulators in Ireland. As Director of Registration in the Teaching Council, he established the register of Teachers in 2005 and was subsequently employed as Director of Registration at CORU and at the NMBI. He also held the position of the Director of Fitness to Practise at the NMBI from 2019 to 2022 and Interim CEO at the Adoption Authority in 2023.

Colm took the position of Executive Director of Strategy and Business Services at the Medical Council in January 2024. He has qualifications in education, information technology, leadership, management, and regulatory law. Colm is passionate about the benefits of professional regulation - both for the public and for registered professionals.
