Ruth Maher was appointed as Director of Strategic Project and Transformation, University of Limerick in 2017. Ruth is a Registered General and Registered Children’s Nurse and holds an MSc in Clinical Neuroscience from the University of Surrey.
After qualifying as a Nurse, Ruth worked in Dublin prior to moving to London where she worked in the National Hospital Queen Square and Great Ormond Street Hospital where she held a number of positions in both clinical and administrative settings. Ruth returned to Ireland in 1999 to take up the position of Ireland’s first Nursing Practice Development Co-ordinator in Paediatrics and subsequently moved into quality, regulatory and patient safety roles both locally, at hospital level, and nationally for Ireland’s Health Service Executive.
During this time Ruth served on a number of national, Department of Health Committees and working groups, was Project Officer to the National Council for Nursing and Midwifery and acting Chair of the Department of Health Paediatric Nurse Education Review Group. Ruth was also a member of a Recognised Research Ethics Committee for eight years. Ruth has also held adjunct faculty positions in both the University College Dublin School of Nursing and Midwifery and in the Institute of Leadership in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and she considers her ability to build relationships and collaborating with colleagues as key to achieving corporate objectives.
