About the Social Workers Registration Board
The Minister for Health and Children, James Reilly TD, confirmed on 5 August 2010 the establishment of and appointment of members to the Social Workers Registration Board, under the Health and Social Care Professionals Act 2005 (amended) to regulate the profession of social worker.
The register opened on 31 May 2011, and the title became officially protected on 31 May 2013.
The Social Workers Registration Board at CORU has statutory responsibility for:
- Establishing and maintaining a Register of members of the profession.
- Assessing, approving and monitoring training courses for the health and social care professions under the Act.
- Established the code of professional conduct and ethics and standards of performance to which social workers must adhere
The Social Workers Registration Board is also the designated Competent Authority and is responsible for recognition of qualifications gained outside the State.
